I’m 14…Why Haven’t I Had My Period Yet?

Hi Katie,
I’m 14 and haven’t gotten my period yet. I’m starting to get worried because everyone in my family got it in 8th grade and now I’m going into 9th. Also I’m the only person I know who hasn’t gotten it.
I was also wondering if you get a growth spurt when you do get your period because I’m only 5 feet tall and one of the shortest in my grade. One last thing is it true you lose weight or “baby fat” when you get it because I used to be skinny and now for the last couple of years I’ve gone through a chubby stage.

Don’t worry you are going to get your period within the next couple of years. I didn’t get mine until I was 14, and some girls don’t get theirs until they are 15 even 16 sometimes! Your family is always a good guideline for when you might get yours, but that’s all it is, is just a guideline…not an exact science. So just because you didn’t get yours exactly when your mom and sister got theirs does not mean that there is anything wrong with you.
And yes, you will experience some growth spurts, however don’t expect your height to go from 5′ to 5’11″. You may grow slightly taller and you will start to gain weight a little easier and start to get more womanly curves. At your age, whether you’ve started your period or not, your body is going through hormonal changes which could be why your body is filling out more now. This is perfectly normal and expected.

OMG! U r exactly like me!!!! I swear, I thought this was my question! EVERYTHING that u said is going on with me, just I think I’m either a little chubby cause of what u said or cause I was in a car accident a few years ago and since then I have a bit a belly fat.

heey!:) – i had the same problem, i’m 14 and all my friends started so long ago, and my family started really young aaswell. i always felt left out, and i thought it was never going to happen. but then one day it just did i was 14. i thought it was never going to happen. but now it has, it’s not that great. feel good that you haven’t got one. cos it’s nice being free.
but don’t worry it will happen and soon!:)
