Hi Katie,

I have a question about foundation. What is a good foundation that will cover my blemishes if I have them but, isn’t so heavy that I break out? Which has more coverage: powder or liquid? I’d like one that I could just go buy at the store.

Thank you! (:

Emily, 13

Dear Emily,

My favorite foundation that you can get at ANY store is the foundations from L’Oreal Paris. Particularly the True Match Super Blendable makeup. The color tones are very natural and match many skin tones flawlessly. That is what I use and I get complements all the time and people asking me what makeup I wear. Apply it with a makup sponge. It creates a thin and smooth layer so that you still get good coverage but it’s not all caked on.

Next you wanna use a powder to set the foundation. This will help the foundation stay in place and keep your face from getting really shiny. A powder that I love and use daily is the CoverGirl FreshLook pressed powder. You can also find that at any drug store. And when choosing a color, if you can’t decide between one that is lighter or darker, always choose the lighter one cause you can always use bronzer to darken it if you need to. But if you choose a powder or foundation that is too dark, it will not look natural.

Hi Katie,

I feel ugly and uncomfortable in my body, I always feel like there is somebody staring at me or that everyone is prettier than me. And please don’t give the everyone is beautiful no matter what line, if you want I could send u a picture of me for you to look at and be the judge, if not oh well but please help me. Thanks Katie.

DO YOU THINK I’M PRETTY?
I ATTACHED MY PICTURE

Dear Vanessa,

Seriously I want you to know that I felt the same way when I was thirteen. We are our own worst critic and it can be hard see what other people see when they look at you. You see your own face in the mirror everyday, and after a while it’s had to have an objective view of your looks and what other people are seeing. We see ourselves through the filters of our own minds, which can be very murky and misleading. It’s super easy to spot the negatives in ourselves and then compare ourselves with other girls. I did it too. But I’ve learned, no matter how pretty you are…there will always be someone “prettier”. So you can’t keep measuring yourself up to other girls, you have to stop judging yourself so hard.

Trust me, no one is looking at you thinking any of those things…people are far to concerned with themselves, lol! I don’t think that EVERYONE is beautiful physically…but there is beauty in everything if you look deep enough. Sometimes people who are not necessarily beautiful on the outside, are so kind and loving that it radiates out of them and they become beautiful. I’m telling you this because I have found it to be very true. The more I have worked on myself inside, the more beautiful I feel on the outside. But you are already beautiful on the outside! So anything else on the inside is a bonus for you!

You are a beautiful girl, I got the picture you sent me. I wish you could see what I could see…
Just realize that you are not alone in feeling the way you do right now, there are lots of girls that feel just like you. Beautiful girls criticize themselves all the time and think they aren’t pretty enough.

I think confidence comes in time and with maturity. You are at a tricky age, where you are transforming from a girl to a woman. Learn to be patient with yourself and be fortunate that you are beautiful. Sometimes the easiest and fastest way to change your state of mind is to be grateful. Look at all the things you have to be grateful for…cause trust me there are girls who have it pretty bad. You have great skin (which many girls your age don’t have), your a healthy weight (which lots of girls struggle with but you don’t have to), you have gorgeous eyes, your hair is thick and beautiful (which some girls get extensions to have hair like yours). So are you starting to see that you have a lot going for you?!

Keep thinking about what you have to be grateful for and you will realize you have it much better than a lot of girls and you will start to see the beauty that I see when I look at your picture.

Hi Katie,

Lately I have really been into makeup. I start high school next year and I think this summer will be a great time to start acting and looking more mature. It seems like now is my chance to come back to school with the style and look I’ve always wanted. I don’t want to look ‘old’, just more polished and sophisticated. So here’s the problem, my mom won’t let me buy makeup. She won’t let me use foundation or powders. I already have the eyeliners and shadows that I can use, but I want to look like i’m not wearing ANY makeup and by that I really mean no makeup.

I won’t wear eye makeup and blush and gloss and stuff, but I want a foundation to even out my skin and a concealer to cover my blemishes and under eye circles. She is convinced that the foundations will ruin my skin. I already have a solution to that: I will buy really good makeup. I want to buy MAC or Clinique, but she won’t even listen to me! Please tell me how to convince my mom and let me know if you know of a really good quality foundation without a huge price tag.

Evangeline, 14

Dear Evangeline,

The best foundation isn’t always the most expensive one. The key to finding a good foundation is the color! I have actually found that the Clinique foundations all have a pinkish cool tone to them which does not look natural. Most skin tones have more of a yellow warm hue to them and you need to find a foundation that has those qualities.

I found that the liquid foundations from L’Oreal Paris Ideal Balance and True Match foundations have a great colors that look really natural and warm. That is what I use, and I am always getting compliments on my skin! Also when you are choosing a color, if you can’t decide between two, always go with the lighter one of the two. It will blend better and you can always use a bronzer to give it a little color. But if it turns out to be too dark, it will look obvious you are wearing makeup and give your skin and unclean look.

Another trick to making your foundation appear really natural is to use a makeup sponge and apply it lightly. This will help you to blend it really well into your skin to make it look like your natural skin. Also, a tip when using a concealer to cover blemishes or under eye, always use a concealer with a yellowish tone and that is slightly lighter than your foundation. One I like to use is Maybelline New York Corrector Stick in yellow…it works great for most skin colors. Make sure to apply BEFORE you put on your foundation. Concealer always goes on first.

As for your mom, there is really no way you can change her mind. She has her opinions and beliefs about makeup and you can’t change that. You can either suggest using a natural makeup that doesn’t use chemicals (such as bare minerals) or if you apply your makeup light enough to where is still looks natural your mom might not even notice that you are wearing any!

Hey Katie,

What should I have in my High School Girls Emergency kit?

Jenna, 14

Dear Jenna,

Great question! There are some things that every girl needs to have on hand when in high school in case of emergencies! Here is a list of what you should have in your High School Girl’s Emergency Kit:

Tampons and Pads! You never know sometimes when you might start your period or if one of your friends will need one. Have some extras on hand in your backpack and locker so that you never have any embarrassing accidents!

Extra Makeup! Bring some extra makeup like some lip gloss and a compact so that you can touch up your makeup throughout the day. When at school for 7-8 hours a day you will probably want to freshen up your makeup at some point throughout the day.

Hand Sanitizer! Great to have some hand sanitizer on hand to keep germs away. There are so many other kids sharing desks and opening the doors that you will want to occasionally sanitize your hands to keep yourself at less risk for getting a cold or the flu!

Gum or Breath Mints! You never know when your crush may approach you and wanna chat…so have some gum and breath mints on hand so that you never risk having embarrassing bad breath!

Hand Lotion! It’s always good to have some hand lotion for when you need to re-moisturize! Your hands can get pretty dried out after touching lots of papers and using the bathroom soaps throughout the day…so have a little bottle of your favorite scented lotion to keep your hands soft. Plus if its scented than it will keep you smelling fresh!

Hair Brush and Hair Tie! It’s always good to have your own hair brush and tie for when you need to touch up. Try not to depend on your friends for theirs or let them borrow yours if you can. Plus for gym class or towards the end of the day you might want to put your hair up and it’s nice to have a hair tie with you.

Extra Sweater! It’s always good to have an extra sweater in your locker for if you get cold and didn’t wear warm enough clothes. Also, if your school is strict about the dress code…you might wanna have the sweater to put on if you are wearing a shirt that they deem inappropriate. Cause some schools will make you change into an ugly oversized t-shirt to embarrass you from ever wearing anything inappropriate again.

Tissue! You never know when you will be needing a tissue. There is nothing worse than being stuck in class when your allergies kick in or if your nose starts to run! Have some extra tissue in your book bag so that you can grab it fast if you need it.

Deodorant! Bring a little travel size deodorant in your book bag or gym locker. You may want to reapply it once in a while especially after you exert yourself in gym class or if it is a really hot day.

Hey!

I have a lot of trouble with my hair. It’s kinda thick. I don’t realy like putting it down at all because I am the kinda girl that loves fresh air and cold stuff.

But, do you know any cute up hair styles? All I wear is a pony and a bun! haha! ( I have really wavey hair)

Thanks!
Tamara, 14

Dear Tamara,

There are lots of cute ways you can wear your hair up and still be casual.

First, start by making your hair into a low ponytail and then separating the ponytail into two parts. Wind one into clockwise and pin it. Then wind the other around the other hair counter clockwise and pin it too. This will create a sexy swirly little bun at the nape of you neck! Your hair will be out of your face and you will look stylish and fresh.

Another updo I like is to braid my hair. I take all my hair and pull it to the front over one sholder. Then I braid the hair so that it lays in the front of my sholder. I have thick hair too and this style looks great on people with long thick hair.

In addition, a great up-do is the french twist with a claw clip. Start with making your hair into a low ponytail (but dont use a hair tie). Twist the hair all in one direction then lift it up so that it is against the back of your head and bring the extra hair down next to it creating a roll effect or twist and clip with a claw-clip!

There are also ways to dress up an everyday ponytail. Before making your ponytail, leave a little extra hair around your face out and tie up the rest in a regular ponytail. Then section the hair you left out into four sections. Twist each section and lay against your head and pin down where your ponytail meets your head. This look is great for everyday and has that trendy stylish look that other girls will envy.

Hi my name is Carley and my hair is so boring. I have brown hair that is wavy but I straighten it because it looks terrible wavy. I need some hair ideas that don’t invovle a lot of time and products. Like a hairstyle that takes like five minutess to do and you can do yourself.

I was also wondering what color eyeshadow I should wear. I have dark brown eyes and fair skin, what is a good color combination for me?

Thank you,

Carley, 14

.

Dear Carley,

Sometimes the same hairstyle on several different girls looks totally different. It really depends on the shape and features of your face. A good hairstyle of one girl with brown hair may look bad on another girl with brown hair. So it is really about accentuating your best features and finding your own unique look.

A good way to find ideas for fresh new hair styles is to look at a famous actress, or model or singer who has similar colorings and facial features as you and see what they are doing with their hair to best flatter their face.

You say you have brown hair, and fair skin which is similar to actresses such as Penelope Cruz and Natalie Portman…take a look at pictures of them and what they are doing with their hair that makes them look their best. I think this will help give you great new ideas for hair styles.

And about your eyeshadow, I would say since you have light skin and dark features that you can pull off wearing dark color eyeshadow and light colors too since your skin is fair. It really depends on the event, if you are going out at night with friends or to movies darker colors will help make your eyes stand out. But for day to day eyeshadow for school and stuff, lighter taupes, browns, and coral colors will look great with your colorings.

Hello Katie! (:

Well lately, all of a sudden I started to break out. I uberly hate acne and epecially acne scars. The situation isn’t very bad. But you can tell even when I try to cover it with makeup.

I still want to get it solved before it gets worse because I don’t feel as pretty and confident about myself. So I was wondering if you have any home remedy for getting rid of acne and acne scars.

-Alexis, 14

.

.

Dear Alexis,

There is definetly nothing worse then acne because there is no true cure for it. Sometimes no matter what you do it still happens so I can see your frustration. I have a friend who has always had really bad acne and she used to try and cover it up by using a lot of thick makeup and foundation…but it always ended up looking caked on and accentuated her acne making it more noticeable rather than covering it up!

So then she started using that all natural mineral makeup (like Bare Minerals) over the last year and her skin looks SO much better. She still has some acne when she washes off the makeup, but when she is wearing it, her skin looks amazing!

And as far as remedies you can do yourself, here are a few tips for keeping your skin clear and healthy:

Use a face wash and lotion for sensitive skin. Most people think they have to use creams with stonger ingredients which ends up irritating their skin even more! I love Oil of Olay face lotion for sensitive skin and their disposible mosturising face cloths! They make your skin feel amazing without any irritation.

Also avoid eating a lot of oily or greesy foods like fried foods, pizza, or chocolate. Your diet has a lot to do with your skin! So make sure to eat nutritious food, drink lots more water, and eat less greesy foods and your skin will clear up in no time!

“I have shoulder length & relatively thick hair. It’s naturally straight but it looks best curly. I have curlers but when I curl my hair it never stays curled for the entire day so that by 5th period my hair is just a mess.

What can I do to keep my hair curled?”

Dear Pauline,

To keep your hair curled you can do a couple of tricks. First spray your hair with hairspray before you curl it. Then use a really hot curling iron (either 1′ or 1.5′) and wrap your hair around it starting from one end of the iron and wrapping in a spiral pattern down the iron so that the entire strand of hair you are curling touches the iron.

When done curling spray all hair once again with hairspray to give them a longer lasting hold (I like the aerosol kind of hairspray).

Dear Katie,

I was just wondering how to put eyeliner on the top eyelid.

I put it on the bottom, but I need to do it on the top because it doesn’t look right! (lol)

Could you show me how?

Dear Gabriella,

When you put eyeliner on the top lid, you don’t want to do the entire lash line. Start just a little inside of the center of the lid and put the pencil right on the lash line. Then draw the line alone the lash line to the outer corner. The line should get a little thicker towards the outer corner of your eye.

One tip that I found VERY useful is to use a color that is not black…because black can be way too harsh for everyday use. Find a nice charcoal grey or taupe color (which goes with all eye colors) and it will really help define your eyes with out being too obvious that you are wearing eyeliner.

Make sure also that the line is blended in with your eyelashes, otherwise if there is a gap it will look funny. I will be posting your video soon on the website, so check back soon to watch your video about eyeliner!

Hey, I’m 12 and my parents hate it when I wear makeup but I never feel pretty without it and when I don’t have it on I feel self concsious.

I only wear compact powder and a little bit of natural coloured blush none of the colours are retro or anything their all natural and I wear the odd mascara even tho my folks don’t think I should I still do. And I feel bad but I cant help it do u think its ok or should I low down on the makeup I am in year 7 by the way so I am in high school if that makes a difference.

Jess, 12

.

Dear Jess,

Your parents will ALWAYS think you are perfectly beautiful without any makeup and that you don’t need it. Mine are the same way! However, I can relate to what your saying, I feel much better about my looks when I have my makeup on than when I’m not wearing any. I didn’t start wearing makeup until I was 14, but I know girls are starting to wear it younger now at 12 and 13. It sounds like your makeup you are currently wearing is pretty natural and not overdone, which is great. You are on the right track. Your parents probably feel that you are too young to wear any, but they will have to accept the fact one day, as you grow up you are going to start wearing it at some point.

If your parents are really forbidding it and you will get in trouble for wearing it, then by all means DON’T wear it, I don’t want you to get into trouble. But, if they are somewhat flexible and just disapprove rather than forbid it…maybe you can ask your mom if you could get a makeup lesson to learn how to do your makeup the right way to enhance your looks rather than look like you are wearing makeup. Maybe your parents would be more open to something like this that way they know if you wear makeup it will look good. A lot of beauty salons offer this type of service.

You can also tell them that you know that they think your beautiful without it, but you really like how you look with it and that it makes you feel more confident with your looks. Be honest with them about your feeling insecure without it. If your mom wears makeup then she will be able to relate to what you are saying. Most women that wear makeup feel the EXACT same way as you do, and they feel prettier with makeup than without makeup. So your mom may understand best on how you feel and be able to see your point of view better if you talk to her openly about it.

Hope this helped! Good luck sweetie=)

Hi, I’ve been dating my boyfriend for four years now and I just started noticing that he likes blondes, which upsets me because I have black hair. All the celebrities that he notices and points out are blonde and people who he used to have crushes on in the past are blonde.

My self-esteem and self-confidence have disappeared because having black hair is something I can’t change. He won’t admit that he likes blondes but how can I gain my self-esteem back if all the girls he likes are blonde and none of them look like me?

Nancy, 19

.

.

Dear Nancy,

People often think they have a “type” but then they meet someone completely different and find that they like that type better than the type they once thought they liked! I always dated blonde hair, blue eyed, all-American looking guys. But then I met a guy that was ethnic looking with black hair and I ended up falling for him! I didn’t think he was my type at first but I ended up liking him MORE than any of the blonde guys I dated in the past.

Just because he admires blonde hair on celebrities, doesn’t mean that it is the only quality in a girlfriend that he wants. You may have ALL of the other qualities he is looking for…such as your heart, personality and sense of humor! Which in my opinion is WAY more important than a person’s hair color!

So before you get the urge to turn blonde(lol) take a look at how he treats you and the other qualities that he loves about you. That will give you a much better view of the whole picture and you will see all the other positive qualities you bring to the table in your relationship.

If your boyfriend is good to you and treats you with love, respect and admiration than try to focus on those aspects of the relationship. He probably doesn’t wanna say that his “type” was blonds in the past because that would obviously hurt your feelings since you have black hair…and he doesn’t want to make you feel bad.

So try to recognize that he does see beauty in you…if not he wouldn’t have been with you for four years now!

One of the best tips for shaping eyebrows is LESS IS MORE! I remember trying to pluck mine when I was about your age and I didn’t ask anyone how…I just kinda winged it! And I ended up plucking way more than I should have…which is VERY easy to do!

So be conservative in how much you pluck. It also depends on your natural eyebrows…do you have bushy ones or small ones? A good thing to do would be to go to a professional salon and have them shape them the first time for you (most hair salons or nail salons do this). Then after that you can just maintain them by plucking the stray hairs that grow back. I really wish I had done this before trying it on my own!

BUT if you would rather do it on your own…here are some basic guidelines of what you want to do. But please be very cautious because it is very easy to mess them up! Since eyebrows “frame” our eyes, they are an important feature of your face that enhance your eyes and can make them more bright and open.

Beginning of Eyebrow: Hold a pencil parallel to your nose, straight up-and-down and this will show you where the brow should begin. (most of the time your brow naturally begins here and there is no adjustment needed!

Arch: This is the highest point of the eyebrow and by holding a pencil from the edge of your nostril past the outer edge of your iris (the colored part of the eye) and up to the eyebrow you can pin point where the arch should be.

End of Eyebrow: The brow should end at the outer corner of your eye.

Ok well I have trouble with my makeup. There is always something wrong =( Like if I put mascara on it looks like to much, but I do have long eyelashes.

Also I have brown eyes and don’t know what eyeshadow to wear. Should I wear my eyeshadow by what color I’m wearing that day or my skin tone???

Finally my lip color what color should I wear, I have thin, medium lips. Thank you!!! Carley, 13

.

<img src="http://girltogirltalk.com/wordpress/wp-content/themes/videoelements/images/girl161.gif" alt="" / align=left>

Dear Carley,

I have found the best beauty trick out there is when you stick to natural colors and use makeup to enhance your own colors. This ALWAYS turns out looking the best and most stunning. I have brown eyes too, and long eyelashes. I have found what works for me is to use a sheer foundation all over my face and eyelids as a base.

Then curl my eyelashes…it really helps open up your eyes and makes mascara look good…just make sure to only apply one coat. Also, one reason why your mascara might look to thick is because it may be drying out….you should probably replace it with a fresh mascara that will go on smoother. My favorite mascara is Maybelline intense XXL mascara…it goes on smooth and keeps my lashes curled all day!

Then on my eyelids, I keep it very neutral and with a cream color base and light coral color shade in the corners…but I apply it very subtle. It goes with everything I wear. The eye shadow is from Dior. Sometimes too much eye shadow or eye shadow that is too dark can make your eyes look sunk in.

As for your lips find a shinny clear gloss that will accentuate your natural color of your lips. I love CoverGirl WetSlicks in clear radiance! Plus it is only a few dollars! My lips are medium to small too and the clear gloss really plumps them up while my natural color compliments my facial colors the best. Its funny how nature usually knows what looks best on us!

You can always write back or send me a picture if you have any more detailed questions.

Hi Katie,

I know this probably sounds crazy! LOL! But my hair is very finicky.

I comb it and brush it but it still looks out of place and has stray hairs coming out when i get done combing it and look in the mirror! Any advice would be great!

XOXO Rachael, 13

Dear Rachael,

Maybe you have been parting it in the same place for so long, that the broken off hairs are all around the top where you part it because you always brush it from that area. Every time we brush our hair, we are breaking strands.

So the best thing for you to try is to switch up the part in your hair to a new area of you head where the strands are still intact and not broken. So for instance, if you normally part down the center, try off to one side, or sweeping it all back.

If this is still not working…you can always lightly dampen the fly away hairs with water then gently mist the hairs with hairspray to keep your hair smooth and appearing healthy.

Best of Luck!

Hi Katie,

My hair is dry and breaking. Please help! The last time I got my hair trimmed was about two years ago and now the ends are breaking and split.

Does the fact that I haven’t gotten it trimmed have anything to do with it? If I get it trimmed or cut a little, will it fix the problem? Please help. Thank you! Lexi

Dear Lexi,

Yes, that is why you are getting breakage…you have gone too long with out a trim.

Just get the ends trimed to get rid of all the breakage and split ends and use a moisturizing conditioner such as Biolage and this will solve you beauty problem!

Just make sure to get a trim every couple of months…even if it is just a quarter of an inch…this will help maintain beautiful and healthy hair =)

Hi! Ok so i have some signs that I’m about to start my first period but I have not had it yet. I feel like I am the only girl I know who still hasn’t started hers.

When will I ever hit purberty? I am 14 1/2 and still don’t have it yet. Is there something wrong with me? Do you know the timeframe or any signs.

Dear Bridget,

I used to anticipate having mine too! I remember hoping I would get one and thinking that any little discharge ment that I would be having it soon.

I didnt have mine until I was almost 15. I’m pretty sure it was because I was always very active and skinny so I had mine late…

Usually if you are thin you will have yours later than other girls who are heavier weights, so that could be one reason you have not had one yet.

Plus, TRUST ME,…..you are in no hurry to get it…It’s not as great as you think!

Good luck, hope you get it if thats what you want!

Hi Katie,

So here is my problem… I have too big of boobs and I want small ones….well not like an A cup, more like a C cup.

Im wondering if I should i go to get them reduced when I am 18 or would that be bad? I don’t like them because they make me feel fat and im not fat, I just have big boobs….they are bigger than DD! Please Help! Claudia

Dear Claudia,

Well I have to say thats a GOOD problem to have…lol.

I understand that large boobs are annoying sometimes, but I think if you did have small ones or none at all you would be wishing you had your big ones again!

Dont get a breast reduction unless you are having serious back problems caused by them. Breast reductions will give you big ugly scars and it is not a pleasent surgery from what I have learned.

My best advice is find tops that essentuate your breasts rather than try to restrict them…this will only make them look squished or fat.

Embrace them and make them your own….and realize that you have a problem that most girls wish they had!

Good luck hott stuff!

I have big (round) brown eyes ..and when i put eyeliner on it makes my eyes look even more round and sleepy looking! any advice?

I’m also having trouble with mascara because my eyelashes are kinda short, i always use an eyelash curler..but my eyelashes alwyas end up looking messy, ugh! My face overall is so smooth and clean, the only trouble is the make up that I apply!

Help me please =] Natasha

Dear Natasha,

I have a great solution for you. Instead of putting tons of eyeliner, use a nude color eyepencil and line the inner part of your eyes with this.

Then apply a single coat of mascera to your lashes and use a grey/charcoal or chocolate color eyeliner and line just the outer corners of your eyes (not on the inner part…just below and on your lash line.

This will brighten up your brown eyes and make them look not so sleepy!

xoxo

Hi Katie,

I’m getting ready to take my school pictures next week and want a picture where it makes people just go “wow she’s pretty”!

Do you have any suggestions on my clothing, makeup, hair, etc.? It seems like school pictures always turn out awful, is there anything I can do to make it look great?

Hi Kaylee!

Wear something timeless, usually a tank top or a threequarter-sleeved top in a solid color works well and always looks good.

You know when you look back at old yearbooks and laugh because you see people with their redicoulous styles that were trendy and stylish at that time!

My advice would be to keep it simple and don’t do anything drastically different to your hair or makeup than you usually do and your picure will turn out great.

Oh, and make sure to smile! That always makes a picture beautiful

What’s a really good bronzer?

I’m looking for a natural looking bronzer, please tell me what it is called, how much it is, and where do I get it?

The one I use now seems unnatural, I have tried many different brands but can’t seem to get a natural look from any of them. Thanks! Tisha

Hi Tisha,

The best bronzer that I have found that looks natural on almost any skin tone is Physicans Formula called Summer Eclipse.

It matches almost all skin tones and has a nice golden brown tint that blends very naturally.

It is relatively cheap, around $11.00 and you can find it at any drug store or beauty supply store.

Hi Katie,

I bleached my hair a few weeks ago and now it is a light yellow blonde. I really want white/platinum blonde hair. I have used a toner and that took a lot of the yellow out but it’s still not as light as i want it. What can I do?

Please do not tell me to go to a salon. I went to a salon to get it bleached, spent $100 just to get bright orange/blonde that I had to fix myself. I’m not going to another salon.
Please Help! Danica

.
Dear Danica,

Try using L’Oreal “Super Blonde” which will lighten your hair all the way…comb it through your strands evenly and make sure you leave it on long enough. (I leave it on for 45 mins to an hour, but since you have already bleached your hair you can skip this step. But for everyone else, after using Super Blonde, wash it out thourghly and dry your hair. Once dry it will not be the exact color you want it.

It will look really pale and yellowish…this is normal, do not panic! This is the stage your hair is in right now. So next you are going to use a semi permanent color that is light blonde or golden or ash blonde. Two of my favorites is by Revlon Colorist or Colorsilk

Comb through your hair thoughouly and leave this hair color on you hair for only 5-7 minutes and rinse. Then, if your color is too brassy or yellow use a purple shampoo such as Shimmer Lights to tone it down…when using this shampoo, lather it really well and make sure not to leave it in too long. Only thirty seconds at a time.

If it is still too brassy or yellowish, use the purple shampoo again each day until you see the results you want. (but make sure not to over use…this will turn you hair a purplish or grayish color) If you use it in 30 second intervals you will achieve the “white or platinum” look you want.

I’ve been doing this now because to my own hair for a couple years now. I know what you mean, I could never get the salon to do it right either! Now I get it just how I want it.

If you have any trouble with using this technique, feel free to email me again and I will help you to get the results you are looking for!

Hi Katie
,
I colored my hair black about 3 months ago, my hair color naturally varies from a light blonde to a dark brunette. My hair has barely faded, I wash it at least once a day and my color will not come out, I really want my natural hair color back and fast.

Is there any product I could use once or twice a day that would help get it out faster? Or is there any other way without dying it permanently or bleaching it I can get progress??

The box said it should only last 30 washes except if i went drastically darker which i did, so i was thinking it would come out in about 60 but i know i’ve washed my hair at least 30 times and there really isn’t any change in color at all. ~ Gina

,

Dear Gina,

Black is a really harsh color and can be hard to correct…but there is a couple of things you can try.

I color my friend’s hair all the time, and her hair is naturally a sandy blonde color and we colored it a dark brown, but she didn’t like it, it came out to dark so we used this kit and it completely reversed the dark coloring and her hair looked just like it did before it was colored!

But we did it the day after we had colored it.So you may want to check to see it will still work after you have had the color in as long as you have.Good luck, hope you get your natural hair color back.

I have found over time that it really is true that the most flattering color hair on most people is the color they are born with.

Funny how nature just knows what will make us most beautiful!

xoxo

Dear Girl to Girl,

I’m dying my hair dark brown for Halloween its the temporary 10 day color.

Do u think it’s a good idea?? Does dark brown turn out different of dirty blonde hair?

Olivia

<img src="http://girltogirltalk.com/wordpress/wp-content/themes/videoelements/images/girl161.gif" alt="" / align=left>
Dear Olivia,

Honestly I think it is a bad idea. The temporary hair color will not wash out completly in 10 days. When they say “10 days” they mean it will look like that brown color for 10 days before it starts to fade to a less brown color.

If I were you I wouldn’t risk ruining your hair color just for halloween. Instead you could get a cute brown synthetic wig or the hair paint that washes out when you take a shower.

Good luck!

Hi Katie,

I was just wondering how you and other girls feel about themselves without wearing any make-up. I feel like since I started wearing it a couple years ago, now I dont like myself without it.

I think Ive gotten so used to seeing myself with it on, that now I dont like myself without it.

What do you think about this topic?

Anna

Hi Anna,

This is a great topic, thanks for bringing it up! I wear makeup everyday but I put it on very naturally…so it looks as if I am wearing very little.

Recently I just got comfortable enough for my boyfriend to see me without makeup and he thinks I look naturally beautiful without it. I think I look better with makeup but I think I look good without it too.

I think this happens to most girls who are so used to seeing themselves with makeup on, and then once they wash it off it doesn’t seem like the same them. Maybe try to apply your makeup very natural and minimal so that when you do wash it off it wont be a drastic difference.

So I guess it is just a matter of being comfortable with yourself and accepting your natural beauty…makeup should enhance your beauty not disguise it, that way when you are not wearing any it won’t look so different.

Hi Katie,

So I am worried if I am fat..I am 13 and I weigh 130 pounds is that fat??? What is the best way to lose weight???

I have thought about going bulimic and anorexic but I know that’s really unhealthy.
And I want to go to the gym but I have no time. Any other ways I can lose weight? ~ Sydney
~

Dear Sydney

You are healthy and that is great! If you want to lose weight or just stay in shape join a fun class at the gym, or get active in sport you love.

Whatever you do, do not go to any drastic measures like bulimia or anorexia….these are diseases that can permanently damage your body and your mind. It will become an obsession and struggle for the rest of your life.

Your health will suffer severe consequences; you can develop heart problems, infertility, mal nutrition, osteoporosis, and many other problems.

You say you don’t have time to exercise, but even just incorporating activity into your day like going on a couple of short 15 minute walks, or joining a softball league and practice once a week you should be just fine.

Please take my advice and don’t get too obsessive over it…it will only be a really hard and long road ahead of you if you do.

Much love,

Hi Katie,

It seems like I am always just in the middle between happy and sad. I don’t feel TRUELY happy. What can I do to feel better of have a happier life? I feel numb…

Jessica
.

Dear Jessica,

Try to always look at the positives in life! Sometimes that can seem difficult, but when you focus on the good stuff, somehow it seems to grow. If you are always looking at your life negatively and feeling unsatisfied than you will have trouble being happy.

But if you make a concious effort to really acknowledge everything you are greatfull for than you will start to see the good in life and happiness will be a result.

Also, it is always good to find something you are passionate about. Like a new hobby or something you like to do, just for you. Like for me I love art, and when I am painting it makes me happy. It is something special that I am good at and helps me define who I am.

I also love sports too. And when my life starts feeling empty, I just find something new and inspiring to strive towards and then my life begins to feel purposeful and happy.

So set new a goal or find something that inspires you and maybe that will bring you some happiness.

xoxo
